Bangkok Suvarnabhumi has 9 Priority Pass lounges. I decided to test which credit cards actually give unlimited access.
The marketing says "unlimited." Reality says otherwise.
I spent 14 hours at BKK testing 4 credit cards across 7 lounge visits. Here's exactly what happened.
The Test Setup
Cards tested:
- HDFC Infinia (claims unlimited Priority Pass)
- Axis Magnus (claims 8 complimentary visits)
- ICICI Emeralde (claims 6 international visits per quarter)
- American Express Platinum India (claims Priority Pass included)
Test protocol:
- Enter lounge, show card, note acceptance/rejection
- Move to next lounge after 1-2 hours
- Test same card at multiple lounges
- Document any pushback or conditions
Flight was Delhi to Bangkok, returning same day to test maximum lounge entries.
Lounge 1: Miracle First Class Lounge (Concourse G)
Time: 6:30 AM Card used: HDFC Infinia
Scanned Priority Pass app. Green check. No questions. Entry granted.
The lounge was excellent. Hot breakfast, shower rooms, quiet seating. Stayed 2 hours.
Result: Unlimited claim validated.
Lounge 2: Coral Lounge (Concourse D)
Time: 9:00 AM Card used: HDFC Infinia (second use)
Same Priority Pass scan. No issue. Staff didn't mention previous visit.
Result: Multiple same-day entries work.
Lounge 3: Miracle Lounge (Concourse G, different location)
Time: 11:30 AM Card used: Axis Magnus
Priority Pass app showed 8 visits remaining. Scanned successfully.
Staff asked: "You already visited Miracle First Class today?"
I said: "Different lounge, right?"
She nodded, let me in. The system apparently tracks lounge visits but doesn't restrict same-day multiples.
Result: Axis Magnus unlimited within daily allocation.
Lounge 4: King Power Lounge (Concourse C)
Time: 2:00 PM Card used: ICICI Emeralde
Priority Pass app showed 6 remaining quarterly visits. Scanned fine.
Staff mentioned: "This is your fourth lounge today." Not a question, just a statement.
Entry granted without issue.
Result: ICICI tracks visits but doesn't restrict.
Lounge 5: Miracle Business Class Lounge (Concourse A)
Time: 4:30 PM Card used: HDFC Infinia (third use same day)
This is where it got interesting.
Staff scanned. Paused. Called supervisor.
Supervisor: "Sir, you've used Priority Pass three times today."
Me: "My card has unlimited visits."
Supervisor checked system. Nodded. Entry granted.
Result: Third same-day visit triggered manual review but was still approved.
Lounge 6: Oman Air First Class Lounge
Time: 6:00 PM Card used: American Express Platinum India
This lounge requires manual verification. They called Amex.
Wait time: 23 minutes.
Eventually approved. But the process was frustrating.
Result: Amex works but verification delays are real.
Lounge 7: Louis' Tavern Lounge (Concourse D)
Time: 8:30 PM Card used: HDFC Infinia (fourth use)
By now I was testing limits deliberately.
Staff scanned. No pause. No questions. Entry granted.
Result: Four visits in one day on a single card works.
Cards Ranked By True Unlimited Access
1. HDFC Infinia - Best
Four visits in one day. Zero friction after the third. Truly unlimited means truly unlimited.
The card costs Rs 12,500 annually. Priority Pass alone is worth $469 globally. You're getting 30:1 value on lounge access.
2. Axis Magnus - Excellent
Eight visits per quarter is technically limited. But 8 visits per quarter means 32 annually. That's enough for most travelers.
No friction on multiple same-day visits within allocation.
3. ICICI Emeralde - Good
Six international visits per quarter. 24 annually. Solid for occasional travelers.
They track visits closely but don't restrict aggressively.
4. Amex Platinum India - Problematic
Manual verification required at some lounges. 23-minute wait is unacceptable during tight connections.
The Priority Pass experience is worse than standalone membership despite the high annual fee.
Bangkok Airport Lounge Rankings
While testing cards, I ranked the lounges.
Best: Miracle First Class Lounge (Concourse G)
- Hot food: Thai curries, dim sum, full breakfast
- Showers: Yes, high quality
- Seating: Spacious, quiet zones
- Alcohol: Full bar
Second: Oman Air First Class Lounge
- Best food quality
- But restricted access, verification delays
- Only worth it if you have 30+ minute buffer
Third: Coral Lounge (Concourse D)
- Solid all-around
- Good food variety
- Less crowded than Miracle
Avoid: Louis' Tavern
- Overcrowded
- Limited food options
- Feels like a waiting room
Same-Day Multi-Visit Strategy
If you have a long layover, plan your lounge hopping:
Morning: Miracle First Class for breakfast Midday: Coral for lunch variety Afternoon: Oman Air if you have time to wait for verification Evening: Miracle Business Class for pre-flight drinks
Four lounges. Four different experiences. All on one unlimited Priority Pass card.
What "Unlimited" Actually Means
Credit card terms define unlimited differently:
HDFC Infinia: No stated limit. No per-day cap. No annual cap. True unlimited.
Axis Atlas: 8 per quarter. "Unlimited" marketing is misleading.
ICICI Emeralde: 6 international per quarter. Not unlimited.
Standard Priority Pass membership: Unlimited but charges $35 per guest.
Read the fine print. Only HDFC Infinia delivers genuinely unlimited international lounge access.
Guest Policies Tested
I tested bringing a guest on visit 3.
HDFC Infinia: Guest entry at $35 charged to card. No friction.
Axis Magnus: Guest counted against 8-visit allocation. One visit consumed.
ICICI Emeralde: Guest counted against quarterly limit.
For traveling couples, HDFC Infinia with add-on card is optimal. Both cardholders get unlimited. No guest charges.
Other Airports With Best Unlimited Testing
Bangkok is excellent for testing because of lounge density. Other good test airports:
Delhi T3: 6 Priority Pass lounges. Similar density to BKK.
Singapore Changi: 8 Priority Pass lounges across terminals. But requires terminal changes.
Dubai DXB: 5 Priority Pass lounges. Long layovers common.
Hong Kong: 7 Priority Pass lounges. Excellent food across all.
Best Cards For Unlimited International Lounge Access
Based on real-world testing:
Tier 1: True Unlimited
- HDFC Infinia: Rs 12,500/year, no limits
- HDFC Diners Club Black: Rs 10,000/year, no limits (if you hit spend thresholds)
Tier 2: High Allocation
- Axis Magnus: 8/quarter, Rs 12,500/year
- Axis Atlas: 8/quarter, Rs 5,000/year
Tier 3: Moderate Allocation
- ICICI Emeralde: 6/quarter international, Rs 12,000/year
- SBI Aurum: 4/quarter, Rs 4,999/year
Tier 4: Problematic
- Any card requiring manual Amex verification
- Cards with combined domestic/international limits
The Verdict
HDFC Infinia lives up to unlimited claims. Four lounge visits in 14 hours at Bangkok airport. Zero denial. Minimal friction.
If lounge access matters to you, pay the Rs 12,500 annual fee. It's the only Indian card that delivers truly unlimited international Priority Pass access without asterisks.
Every other card has quotas. HDFC Infinia has none.
That's the difference between marketing and reality.
FAQs
Can lounges deny entry if you visit too many times per day? Technically yes, at their discretion. But in my testing with HDFC Infinia, four visits were approved without denial. Staff may question but ultimately accept valid unlimited cards.
Do Priority Pass visits count differently at different airports? The counting system is global. Visits at Bangkok count against the same allocation as visits at Delhi. But "unlimited" cards don't have allocations to track against.
Which Bangkok lounge is best for sleeping during long layovers? Miracle First Class has quiet zones and reclining chairs. For actual sleep, consider booking a day room at the Novotel connected to the airport.
Can I access lounges on arrival in Bangkok, not just departure? Most Priority Pass lounges are in the departure area after security. You can access them on arrival only if you re-enter through security, which isn't practical at most airports.
Do add-on cardholders get the same unlimited access? For HDFC Infinia, yes. Add-on cards receive their own Priority Pass membership with the same unlimited terms. Both cardholders can visit unlimited lounges independently.
